From the 17th till the 21st of September 2017 i visited the beautiful city of Opatija in Croatia. I was there for the 12th Quadrennial Congress for Neuroscience Nurses. And i was there because i was going to give a presentation on my favorite subject Humour as a Nursing Intervention.

In Ancient Times the Greek philosopher Plato was the first one to give an answer to the question why do people laugh. He stated that you are laughing because you are feeling better the person in front of you. According to Plato laughing equals laughing someone out.

In 2013 I visited my first ever congress abroad. Will it was a very nice trip to Japan, because the 11th quadrennial congress of the WFNN was in Gifu. My former colleagues were very jealous because i got a trip to Japan and my former employer almost paid everything. In Japan I accidentally talked to a Vicki Evans.

The unreachable thing in tending to care for Neurosurgery patients: Can that ‘fingerspitzengefühl’ be learned? Patients that under go neurosurgery are usually labeled as complex patients. These patients cannot tell the nurse adequately how they feel or how they are faring. Clinical observations are therefore very important. Sometimes you see that the state of the patient had changed or sometimes you feel that ‘something’ has changed in/with the patient. Usually it is the feeling of the nurse.
Humour is a topic which has been discussed often but has been little written about. Humour is a complex phenomenon and it is an essential part of mankind. Through the age’s, anthropologists have never been able to find a culture or civilization where there was no humour.
